'Split Fiction' Film Adaptation in Development by Hazelight Studios

‎A film adaptation of Split Fiction, the latest co-op game developed by Hazelight Studios (best known for It Takes Two), is currently in development. Sources at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco revealed that Story Kitchen, the media company behind the upcoming It Takes Two film project at Amazon, is assembling a creative team for the film. The project has already generated significant interest, with offers for the rights flooding in from top Hollywood studios.

‎Split Fiction, written by director Josef Fares and Sebastian Johansson, merges fantasy and science fiction. The game's plot centers on two authors trapped within the worlds they created. It features split-screen combat, platforming challenges, and characters with unique abilities. Following its release on March 6, the game has received widespread acclaim from both players and critics, quickly selling over two million copies in its first week, with sales continuing to grow.
‎The game was first revealed during the 2024 Game Awards and entered development shortly after the success of It Takes Two in 2021. Amazon secured the film rights to It Takes Two in April 2022, and now, the adaptation of Split Fiction seems poised to follow a similar path.
